OT- Haircuts - who says we have to wait a year?
My mother in law insists I wait for 1 year before getting Cooper's hair cut. Several others this weekend agreed with her! I never heard this "rule". Come on ?
But really...my handsome little boy is turning into a very pretty girl. Especially if I don't tame down his hair it's beginning to curl around the edges in a very alluring way.
When did you get your boy's hair cut ? Where? Did they cry?

Mandy, Mom to Jordan (5), Kaida (3) and Luken (born 12/5/09) Army wife! HW:351 / SW: 328 / CW:149/ Goal weight...what is that?
Man... If 1 year is the rule, then I'm guilty big time! My son's first haircut was at 9 months. I got tired of people asking me how old SHE was... so off to the haircutting place we went! I just went to the nearest hair place and told them to make him look like a boy and they did. Sean did so good... no cries or anything. He sat there like a big boy. He did have that "scared" look on his face as if he was asking me what they're doing... lol.
My first I wait until he was a over a year. He had adorable curly locks and I could not stand to cut them. When I did he looked like such a big boy and it made me so sad. My daughter was my second child and I let her hair grow until she was two and got lice from a child at play group. My youngest is a boy and with him, I do not remember, but I think it was around 6 to 7 months. Anyway that is my book. I think it is up to you. My husband says he is buying a onies for our latest addition that says, "My mama doesn't want your advice!" I has taken me three kids to get up the nerve to stick up to my in laws for what I feel is best for my kids. I guess what I am trying to say is he is your son and other than husband no ones opinion matters.
So I am off my soap box now.

my Mom is a hairdresser and has done lots of first haircuts - her response - do it when it needs it! If that handsome little devil were my son I would have her snip off those wings no matter what the age. If my baby's hair grows 1/2 as fast as my hubby's we are going to be having their first haircut around month 3 lol
Here is my thought...
Of course there is no rule that you should wait until your child is a year.
I say go for a very SMALL trim! Because that first haircut changes your "baby" and makes him a " boy "! I cried after my son's first HC because he turned into a little boy. A happy cry but still a cry! He was over a year so that might make a difference. Just snip the flippers and the bangs. :)

Oh gosh, I got the guilt trip from both my parents, my in-laws, the great-grandparents, and all of the great aunts/uncles that if I cut my son's hair before he was 1, I would basically be dis-owned!!!!!!! I kid you not, it was a serious ordeal.
Now mind you, I did not agree. I have a very handsome lil' man, but he's been blessed with curly locks and I just could not stomach the wings and ringlets he was starting to get (would have been GORGEOUS is he was a girl LoL) It bothered me that people were mistaking him for a girl at 7-8 months old. He's got a lot of hair, and was born with it - it never fell out either! My husband made me promise I would wait a year, only for the sheer fact that all of our family was so terribly upset by the idea of me cutting it before then.
Well, we ended up waiting until he was 11 months and my hubby even started to be bothered by it so he gave in to my constant begging. My family didn't speak to me for almost a week and still make comments about it to this day (he's almost 16 months old now).
I saw CUT IT, and do what YOU want... just be prepared for the fall out from the rest of the nay-sayers, arhhhh!
